It felt so good to see the logbook appear when I turned off the power at the end. My climb was a bit slow and my nose a bit high on the landing, but I finally did it. To my amazement I aced it (once I figured out how to turn on the lights). Bought the FS Academy one which actually works fine, although here too the HOTAS sometimes defaults to turning off the AP or setting the throttle where it’s not supposed to be.įinally to end the day, I tried one short flight in a Cessna with AI ATC (it was hard enough keeping it in the air, let alone operate the radio), from cold start to finish. So I loaded up the airliner tutorial, ran into a memory leak and am unable to even start it. The HOTAS was made for an airliner, not a prop plane. Cruel irony.Īfter another week of downloading I finally tried redoing a tutorial mission today only to get frustrated right away. Even found out you can not download at high speeds or it will get stuck in download loops. I now have about 3 hours of game time, 300 hours of download time. Then I finally started it up, and immediately gave up when it showed me the updates it was going to do. So I gave up in frustration.īut I didn’t give up hope, even got the rudder pedals to go with it (those I should have bought first, they make things SO much easier) and did nothing for months until last week. I got angry at the tutorial failing me even though I did exactly what it told me to, and my first solo free flight landed upside down in a creek surrounded by cows. It was humbling, in part due to the throttle really not being compatible with something like the Cessna and the stick having a slight deviation.

Of course I made a few mistakes and immediately went out and bought an X56 HOTAS (which does as much harm as good in this game) on top of the game, and went in full confidence thinking it would be easy peasy. And of course MSFS.Īs the 40th Anni edition was approaching last year I finally figured I could at least do that. But I do keep looking longingly at anything from Cessna lessons to full motion sims. Like many I’ve always wanted to know what it’s like to fly the commercial liners which transport us and like many I’ve come to realize it’s highly unlikely.
